Your first conversation with AI
AI is not a search engine that takes one line and stops. You can chat back and forth as if instructing an assistant. For example, ask for a message to arrange a meeting, then say "make it shorter". This lesson helps you have a successful first conversation.
Chatting with AI has 3 beats:
- Ask: say clearly what you need.
- Read: see whether the result is right.
- Follow up: say what to change.
AI remembers what was said in the same chat, so you do not need to repeat yourself.
Before: "Write a message."
After: "Write a short, polite message asking a customer to meet at 3 pm on Friday."
Step by step
- Open ChatGPT
On a computer or phone, open a web browser and go to chatgpt.com. You can also click "Open ChatGPT" in this lesson's prompt box.
- Send your first request
Copy the sample prompt, paste it, fill in the details and press Enter or tap send.
- Read the result
Read the message. Check the name, time and tone.
- Ask for a change
Type another message in the same chat and send it.
- Copy it to use
Select the final message and copy it (Ctrl+C), or use the copy button under the answer if you see one. Paste it where you need it and read it once more.
What did you learn?
- Chatting with AI means ask, read and follow up.
- AI remembers what is in the same chat.
- A short revision request beats starting over.
- Always read before sending to someone.
