How to use examples to show what you want
It can be hard to describe the voice you want, yet you may already have a piece you like. For example, a shop owner may have an old post customers loved. Give it as a sample and AI writes a new one in the same style. This is often faster than describing it.
Examples show AI what you want so it does not have to guess. A request with a sample has 3 parts:
- Task: write a post about a new product.
- Sample: paste a piece you like.
- What to keep: length, tone, how it opens.
Say clearly: "Learn the style only. Do not copy the wording or information in the sample."
Be careful:
- Use your own writing, or writing you have permission to use.
- Remove names, phone numbers and internal information from the sample before pasting.
Step by step
- Choose a sample
Find a piece you wrote and like: a post, email or message. About 50 to 100 words is enough. Remove names and phone numbers.
- Open ChatGPT
On a computer or phone, open a web browser and go to chatgpt.com. You can also click "Open ChatGPT" in this lesson's prompt box.
- Send the request with the sample
Copy the sample prompt. Fill in what to write, paste your sample in its box, then send.
- Check the information
Read the result. Is the tone similar? Did the AI add anything or take details from the sample by mistake?
What did you learn?
- Examples show AI the style you want.
- A request has the task, the sample and what to keep.
- Say clearly to learn the style only, not copy the wording.
- Use your own writing and remove private details before pasting.
