Things to keep in mind when using AI
By default, ChatGPT conversations may be used to improve its models. So do not paste card numbers or customer data into it. For example, instead of pasting a customer list with phone numbers, use "Customer A". This lesson helps you use AI more safely.
Do not enter into AI:
- Passwords, one-time codes, bank card numbers.
- Identity documents.
- Customer data or internal documents without permission.
ChatGPT options:
- Improve the model for everyone: turn this off and your content is not used for training, while you keep your chat history.
- Temporary chat: does not appear in history, is not used to improve models, and may be kept up to 30 days for safety.
Turning these off does not mean you can enter anything. Sensitive information still should not go in.
Step by step
- Open Settings
On the web when signed in: open your account menu and select "Settings". On the iOS or Android app: open the sidebar and select your profile icon.
- Go to Data controls
Select "Data controls".
- Decide whether to share
If you do not want to share, select "Improve the model for everyone", turn it off and select "Done".
- Practise hiding details
Copy the sample prompt. Before sending, replace real details with placeholders such as "Customer A" or "Company X".
What did you learn?
- Do not enter passwords, one-time codes, card numbers or IDs.
- Use placeholders when working with other people's data.
- You can turn off sharing in Settings > Data controls.
- Temporary chat stays out of history but may be kept up to 30 days.
