Create a free ChatGPT account

You can try ChatGPT without signing in, but an account lets you save your chats. For example, you can reopen an email you drafted last week. This lesson shows you how to create a free account with no payment card.

There are two common ways to sign up:

• An existing account such as Google or Apple: fast, with no new password to remember.
• Email: enter your email and follow the on-screen steps.

Be careful: only sign up at the official address, chatgpt.com. You do not need a card for the Free plan. If a site demands payment to "activate", stop and check the address.

Step by step

1. Open the official site

   Open your browser, type chatgpt.com in the address bar and press Enter. Check the address bar to be sure.

2. Click "Sign up for free"

   Click the "Sign up for free" button.

3. Choose how to sign up

   Option 1: click "Continue with Google", "Continue with Apple" or "Continue with phone". Option 2: enter your email under "Email address" and click "Continue". If you use Gmail, "Continue with Google" is the easiest.

4. Finish on screen

   Read and follow each on-screen request. If you used email, check your inbox for the confirmation sent to you. Do not choose a paid plan unless you need one.
