How to ask AI to revise an answer
AI's first answer is often not quite right, and that is normal. For example, a post may be fine but a bit long and too formal. Instead of starting over, just say what to change. This lesson helps you revise quickly and in the right place.
A good revision request says 2 things: which part to change and how.
Unclear: "Rewrite it." or "Not good enough."
Clearer:
- Length: "Make it 3 sentences."
- Tone: "Friendlier, as if messaging someone you know."
- One part: "Keep it all, just change the first sentence so it stands out."
- Remove: "Remove the sentence about the discount."
Tip: change one or two things at a time so differences are easy to see. If a conversation has mixed many topics, start a new one.
Step by step
- Open ChatGPT
On a computer or phone, open a web browser and go to chatgpt.com. You can also click "Open ChatGPT" in this lesson's prompt box.
- Create a first draft
Copy the sample prompt, fill in the details and send. Read the result.
- Change the length
Type in the same conversation and send. You do not need to paste the post again.
- Change the tone
Send another request about tone.
- Change just one detail
Ask the AI to keep the post and change only one part. Read it all once more before using it.
What did you learn?
- A first answer that misses the mark is normal.
- A good revision request says which part to change and how.
- Change only one or two things at a time.
- Read it all again because AI may change other parts too.
